Multiplying Mixed Numbers
Example: 2 3/4 X 3 2/8
Get MAD!!!!! Not angry mad! MAD = Multiply, Add, Denominator
2 3/4, multiply the denominator (4) by the whole number (2), add the numerator (3) and then keep the denominator. 4*2+3=11 So....my new MAD fraction is 11/4.
3 2/8 Do the same thing.8*3+2 (MAD) = 26. Keep the denominator = 26/8.
My new problem is now 11/4 * 26/8. Now I multiply the numerators (11*26) and then multiply the denominators (4*8). My answer is 286/32. I can't keep it like this though because it's improper. I divide the numerator by the denominator. 286 divided by 32 is 8 with 30 left over. My answer is 8 30/32. BUT WAIT, there's more. I can simplify the fraction. I can divide the numerator and denominator by 2. My final answer is 8 15/16
